Gave it a Shot
Well......I think the fight is officially over. We tried to get people to listen (and many did) but the community as a whole just doesn't care.
Daniel Hawke Fears was declared a danger to himself and others in a recent court hearing...for now. My sister attended the hearing and informed me his lawyer is setting the stage for future hearings and tried extremely hard to get him released. I would say within a year or two, he'll be walking the streets with no criminal record.
The fact is my mother is dead, shot down in her own front yard and he will get away with it. I started the campaign for the victims of this crime, but also for my mom who would have done the same for me.
I hope he doesn't do it again, but the people of the community better get in the habit of locking their doors and get some firearms within reach. The law in most of this country is turning mentally ill killers back to society and there is nothing we can do about.
Thanks go out to my friends and family who supported our effort. I won't forget it. Always remember the victims out there!
